Shanghai's leading foundry Hua Hong Semiconductor Limited (华虹半导体) announced that its Fab 3 in Zhangjiang High Tech area of Pudong District has resumed production after a three-hour power failure on January 7. The blackout did not cause casualties or environmental damage and will have a limited impact on this listed company's performance, the company said in a statement on January 9.
The power outage was caused by a PT (Potential Transformer) failure in the fab's GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear). The company launched the emergency plan immediately and the power supply resumed in the afternoon on that day.
Hua Hong's Fab 3 is an 8-inch wafer production line with an advanced 90 nanometers process with a monthly production capacity of 53,000 8-inch wafers, according to the company's 2020 annual report.
Hua Hong Semiconductor was established in 1997 and listed in Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited in 2014 with a stock code of 1347. HK. It is part of the Huahong Group, Shanghai's leading IC manufacturing corporation. It operates three 200mm wafer fabrication facilities in Shanghai's Pudong District.
